The eDrive power analyzer by HBM

Durham Instruments carries many innovative solutions by HBM Test and Measurement, including the eDrive power analyzer. This is a revolutionary product for testing electrical drives, inverters, machines, and power trains. The device acquires mechanical information and electrical signals at the same time, a key benefit for drive optimization and efficiency.

Users can better understand an electric drive and its losses in only minutes with the help of the eDrive.

Unique data-acquisition and -analysis capabilities

This is a versatile instrument that works for many crucial tasks, particularly motor testing or electrification. It is also appropriate for measurement channels for electrical and mechanical values, simultaneous sampling of all signals and storage in a data file, and power analysis, with acquisition of raw data per set point or continuous storage for startup tests. It operates with accelerometer, temperature, and CAN inputs. Durham Instruments deems the eDrive suitable for use in general manufacturing, aerospace, automation, the medical sector, the military, power generation, alternative energy, transportation, and research and development.

The eDrive offers unique data-acquisition and -analysis capabilities as well as power measurement, unlike typical power analyzers. It provides simple measurement setup, as an integrated system instead of a blend of various units. HBM modular power analyzers are recommended for any electrification test for three-phase and multi-channel applications, including six-phase machines and hybrid or multi-motor drives.

The device has two primary aspects, a high-accuracy power analyzer and high-performance data-acquisition system. The former measures and calculates electrical signals and power in real time on up to 51 channels, plus mechanical power with up to six torque/speed signals and a typical base power accuracy of 0.02 per cent. The latter offers synchronous, constant recording of electrical signals, torque, speed, temperature, acceleration, and CANbus, plus real-time or post-process analysis for result verification, mappings, or advanced analysis like NVH and electrical correlations.

Easy to expand beyond three phases, the eDrive has user formulas for adaptation to special applications like multi-level inverters. For a better look, watch this video:
