HARTING recognizes five top connectivity trends.

As a world leader in industrial connectivity, the HARTING Technology Group always keeps its finger on the pulse of the market. The company understands all of the current trends and developments in the field – and brings them to this country through its Montreal-based affiliate, HARTING Canada. This year, the HARTING team has used its expertise and experience to identify five dominant connectivity trends that are changing the market and transforming businesses.

The next generation of connectors

HARTING’s unmatched knowledge of the connector market enables the company to recognize unique trends before anyone else does. The five big connectivity trends go as follows:

  • Connectors outperform hard-wiring/lugging. The hard-wiring method is inconvenient for anyone who needs to install, troubleshoot, test, or maintain applications, though some manufacturers choose it because it is slightly less expensive for designing applications and installing them once. Connectors are winning out because they are more time- and cost-efficient.
  • Choices in form factor. HARTING industrial connectors can be categorized in two different shapes: rectangular or circular. A connector’s shape has a profound effect on its usability.
  • Miniaturization allows more in less space. Miniature connectors offer several advantages: users can combine multiple connection types into one connector; component shapes use panel or device space efficiently; and features are more integrated.
  • Modularization makes flexibility easy. Connectors enable higher flexibility. Hard-wiring makes modular robots and production floors highly impractical and very expensive. Customizable, hybrid connectors with standard parts are enabling modularization, even at the component level.
  • Smart connectivity is the next generation of connectors. As newer connectors take action on the media as it passes through, smart connectivity helps to prevent downtime, improve operational efficiency and reliability, and create the most secure location for integration.

HARTING recently authored the 5 Trends in Connectivity Playbook, which explains all of these connectivity trends in more detail. This guide can be downloaded in PDF form at this link.

By learning more about current trends in the connector industry, customers can work with HARTING to find the right connectivity solutions for their unique applications.
