Chain-driver live roller conveyor from Norpak

Norpak Handling is not merely a top Canadian supplier of material-handling systems; the company is also a valuable team of experts in these products. One popular choice is the pallet conveyor, highly useful for transporting items in manufacturing facilities and warehouses – especially ones dealing with large products or quantities.

Since pallet conveyors come in different designs and technologies, it is important to understand the different models and their variations.

Higher flexibility and productivity

Pallet conveyors are typically used to transport pallets stably and efficiently in and out of warehouses for outbound shipping. With the appropriate specifications and customization, a pallet conveyor can boost the flexibility and productivity of a production line while lowering operational costs.

Three common types of pallet conveyor:

  • Gravity roller conveyor. This design uses gravity to keep non-powered rollers moving to move pallets along. Usually pitched slightly to provide the space required for free pallet spinning. Pitch amount depends on the kind of products being transported and the application; the standard level ranges from ½ to one inch per one-foot length.
  • Chain-driver live roller conveyor. Ideal for moving heavy items like drums, tires, or fully loaded pallets. Very durable and suitable for tough working environments. Users can configure the lengths and widths or modify spaces between rollers for specific needs.
  • Drag chain conveyor. Also known as a multi-strand conveyor, this one uses parallel strands of roller chains to transport items. Products sit atop chains supported by rails. Recommended for applications requiring minimal starting and stopping.

Both the chain-driver and drag options work well with Hytrol EZLogic technology, which increases accumulation abilities. With the EZLogic zone controller, the operator can create zone-length gaps between items and slug release; this achieves higher carton throughput via minimal gaps. Other helpful accessories include turntables, for rotating unit loads when direction changes or lines intersect, and transfer modules or plates, to move items between lines.

Any of these pallet solutions is available from Norpak’s wide inventory, and the company’s sales representatives offer ample expertise to help customers find the proper conveying solution for any application.
