industrial weigh feeders

Weight feeders are among Continental's offerings.

Continental Conveyor Ltd. manufactures an impressive range of material-handling equipment, from belt and screw conveyors to industrial weigh feeders. The latter are self-contained belt feeders with controlled drive systems, speed sensors, and integrators, built to operate in the shearing and wild-flow modes of weigh-feeding applications. Various sizes and models are available, and these devices are composed of numerous important components – mechanical, electrical, weighing, and structural parts, including Milltronics weighing components.

From drive pulleys to idlers

Many carefully constructed components go into a Continental weigh feeder. All of these parts play important roles in making the system work smoothly. Mechanical components of these industrial weigh feeders include the following: drive pulleys, for improved weighing accuracy; pillowblock bearings, for extended service life; drive and tail shafts, to assure long pulley life; take-up frames, to adjust belt tracking; belting, for retaining material; drives, to reduce speed; chain drives, for fine-tuning belt speed; AC or DC electric motors; vee ploughs, to remove materials inside the belts; belt scrapers, with adjustable torsional tensioners; idlers with oversized shafts; and scale quality idlers.

The structural components of Continental weigh feeders include these elements: frames, for better rigidity; shear gates, adjustable for control of material bed depth; legs, for stability; calibration weight racks, for convenient weight storage; head chutes, made of heavy plate; tail pulley guards; enclosure panels; and in-feed sections, to provide even distribution of material flow.

Continental industrial weigh feeders consist of two electrical components – belt misalignment switches, which signal mistracking of belts, and zero-feed detectors, which signal plugged in-feed chutes or bridged hoppers. Also vital are these three Milltronics weighing components:

  • MSI belt scale. Unique design allows direct application of the weigh-feeder loading on dual load cells, with no pivots, bearings, trunnions, or flexures to hamper the weighing process.
  • ACCUMASS BW100 and BW500 integrators. Microprocessor-based integrators that display flow rate, total, load, and speed.
  • MD speed sensors. Driven by the weigh-feeder tail pulley and housed in a rugged, weatherproof enclosure.

With Continental weigh feeders, customers rest assured that all the top components add up to an effective whole.
