Denso Re-Instatement Tape has been keeping asphalt seals intact in Barrie for more than 15 years.

Although many construction companies trust Denso North America to protect pipelines from corrosion, the manufacturer also makes great products for road repairs. Denso’s Re-Instatement Tape or Densoband are the perfect choices for sealing asphalt to a variety of surfaces.

The City of Barrie, Ont. knows this very well. Barrie road construction crews have been relying on Denso Re-Instatement Tape for asphalt patching following utility cuts on roads for more than 15 years.

A decade of results

In the early 2000s, Barrie road supervisors began having utility workers use Denso Re-Instatement Tape on the internal perimeters of utility cuts between applying base asphalt and installing top coats. This was due to concern over the frequent disbondment of cold joints in asphalt after road repairs in the city.

Denso Re-Instatement Tape is a modified polymer bitumen strip designed to compress and rebound, to prevent water from getting into joints between reapplied asphalt and older asphalt, steel, or concrete surfaces. Fast and easy to apply, this tape contours irregularly shaped edges easily and eliminates the need for future sealing of joints or cracks. Workers cold-apply the strips to minimally prepared surfaces prior to paving with hot asphalt, and that is all that is required to protect joints from water or ice damage for years.

Since the previous decade, joints on Barrie roads have remained intact following utility construction work, surviving through years of winter freezes and spring thaws. One notable example is Dunlop Street, one of the city’s busier downtown roads, which has been dominated not only by traffic, but also by construction and infrastructure repair. Last year, the City re-evaluated the performance of asphalt patching that its workers had installed on Dunlop back in 2007. The results: Denso Re-Instatement Tape was still doing its job, keeping all the asphalt joints closed and protecting them from water and cracks.

With more than 30 years of proven performance in Canada, Denso Re-Instatement Tape is the ideal choice for road repairs. Cities like Barrie no longer need to resort to router and seal to fix asphalt. With no more cracks, they can save money on repairs for years.
