Tank Base Protection Systems

Denso's Tank Base Protection System can be applied in only four easy steps.

Denso North America manufactures powerful, proven solutions for anti-corrosion protection and sealing for pipeline constructors, infrastructure workers, and others. A key example is Denso’s unique Tank Base Protection Systems. These products seal gaps to protect tank chimes and bases from corrosion and water ingress. Users can apply these systems in four simple steps, with the assistance of several other patented Denso products like Densyl Mastic and FB 30 tape.

Protection for years to come

These Tank Base Protection Systems have been designed to comply with the strict API-653 standard for tank-chime inspection. Denso ensures that these systems can protect tank bases from needless corrosion and water damage for years to come.

The four-step procedure for applying these Tank Base Protection Systems begins with applying Densyl Mastic, to provide a smooth transition between the tank base and the concrete. Workers should mould the compound into a round configuration and apply it around and in between the circumference of the tank edge and concrete based, in order to fill all voids and reduce any sharp edges.

The second step involves the application of Denso Hi-Tack tape onto the concrete base, starting at a minimum of one inch. Users should apply this tape circumferentially around the concrete and steel tank base. If an extra layer is required to cover at least one inch onto the steel tank base, then it should be applied with an overlap of at least an inch onto the first Hi-Tack Tape layer.

For step three, apply Denso FB 30 tape, starting at a minimum of an inch below the Hi-Tack tape and, then proceed circumferentially around the concrete and steel tank base. If necessary, apply a second layer with an overlap of at least one inch onto the first layer, to cover a minimum of one inch over the Hi-Tack tape onto the steel tank base. It is important to press out and adhere all seams and overlaps.

Finally, mix Denso Weathershield 55 thoroughly to achieve an even colour and apply it with a brush as a topcoat to the FB 30 tape.
