HARTING offers great solutions for rail systems..

HARTING Canada is the country’s premier source of connectivity solutions, including units for rail vehicles. These connectors must be extremely robust, as well as quick to install and simple to maintain. This is why the HARTING team has developed powerful, innovative new interfaces for energy distribution in rail applications.

The Han HPR High Performance Transformer Connector (HPTC), the Han HPR VarioShell, and the Han HPR TrainPowerLine (TPL) are among these system solutions.

Optimized for outdoor use

The HPTC is a transformer connector that meets all market requirements. HARTING has optimized the hoods, housings, and cable glands for energy distribution outdoors. Everything is designed to be robust enough that the connection between pantograph, transformer, and train busbar remains stable over the long run. Operators can reuse existing contours on the transformer, so design changes are unnecessary.

This connector meets all requirements for simple assembly, user safety, and minimum number of components. A crimped contact on the cable side is inserted into a three-part, touch-proof insulating body, and a cable gland protects against dust and moisture, absorbs residual currents, and transfers them to the housing.

The VarioShell is a housing system for inter-car jumper applications. The two-piece housing/hood achieves a IP69K rating by using a mounting frame, thanks to a circumferential internal seal. The cover is removable, so the housing/hood can be fitted from inside and outside the rail vehicle. The easy accessibility minimizes effort during operation, servicing, and maintenance. The contours allow dirt deposits to slide off, and special curvatures on the upper side keep ice and snow moving and sliding down the sides without exerting pressure on the wall and housing.

For more efficient energy consumption and less complexity, the TPL replaces such solutions as the UIC, power, and Y-distributors for train busbars. HARTING has tailored this unit for modern trains running in a network, and it offers weight advantages of up to ten kilograms per rail vehicle over previous offerings. Users require little space to supply energy distribution to all electrical equipment and systems on a train. It is ideally suited for outdoor conditions.
