Durham Instruments carries a wide range of measurement devices from leading suppliers. String potentiometers, also known as string pots, are among its offerings.

The Celesco SP1 String Pot, from Measurement Specialties, is a compact, economical and durable device that utilizes a flexible cable, a spring-loaded spool and a potentiometer to detect and measure linear position. With an operating temperature range of -18 to 71 degrees C, the SP1 is designed for tight spaces and high-cycle applications, and is known for “generously” allowing cable misalignment. It has four measurement ranges (4.75, 12.5, 25 and 50 inches), and comes with mounting brackets.

Also from Measurement Specialties, the SM1 Miniature String Pot features an ultra compact design, making it ideal for applications where space is limited. At just a little over an inch across, this miniature string pot offers four full stroke measurement ranges (2.5, 7.5. 12 to 25 inches). A precision plastic hybrid 10K-ohm potentiometer delivers a precise voltage divider output signal that is linearly proportional to the travel of the spring-loaded measuring cable. The SM1 is made with a rugged polycarbonate enclosure and free-release tolerant, making it the perfect solution for the OEM and single piece user alike. It is able to operate in temperature ranges from -18 to 70 degrees C.

Both models are available from Pickering, Ont.-based Durham Instruments. The company offers a superior line of quality measuring instruments for any measuring problem, and has a team of instrument specialists trained to help customers find the right tool for their specific applications.
