ELS’ steerable transfer cart, ideal for many applications

For nearly half a century, Engineered Lifting Systems & Equipment (ELS) has been providing standard and custom overhead lifting systems, as well as transfer carts, to help companies move materials quickly, easily, and safely. As it is one of Ontario’s leading crane manufacturers, customers rely on the expertise ELS has to resolve their material-handling issues.

For example, there was one manufacturer that needed help moving heavy steel coils around its facility. To find the ideal solution, the company turned to ELS.

Moving heavy loads

The manufacturer was dealing with 15-ton coils of steel in its facility. Staff needed to move the coils across a concrete floor from one area of the building to another. The task required some form of mobile mechanical equipment that was strong enough to carry very heavy loads and could be steered in specific directions.

ELS recommended two identical steerable transfer carts, each capable of carrying a load up to 15 tons. The deck of each cart includes 3 V-stands designed to handle the steer coils and distribute loads evenly. To increase functionality, the carts were designed so the V-stands could be removed and the cart could accommodate other products and materials.

Easy to operate

Transfer carts are modern-day workhorses. The battery-powered cart moves in a tricycle pattern on two drive casters and a swivel caster. This makes handling and manoeuvring easier. To move the coils of steel, operators walk beside the cart holding pendant controls to steer in any direction. Pendants are end-to-end relocatable, which allows users to optimize steering.

ELS’ steerable transfer cart is highly useful for other applications, including die handling, mounting assemblies, and transporting other heavy items like equipment and structural steel. It can serve as a portable base for machinery or jib arms, or as a precast concrete production cart. Users can adapt the type of cart and deck configuration for specific requirements.
