The LAN-XI Notar recorder from Durham Instruments.

Brüel & Kjӕr offers many innovative solutions in Canada through Durham Instruments, including general-purpose sound and vibration analyzers. For example, the company’s LAN-XI Notar standalone recorder is a tough device that captures time data from up to 12 channels of sound and vibration information. The system uses firmware that is installed on one module of LAN-XI front-end hardware, resulting in a choice of input channels, dynamic ranges, and connector types.

Confident recording in shock-inducing environments

The LAN-XI Notar offers confident recording in shock-inducing environments, like transportation of objects. This standalone recorder also records noise, vibration, and harshness under demanding conditions, such as on a motorcycle on a vehicle test track. Users get standalone, battery-operated recording in the field, like traffic noise.

The acquisition module is typically locked together with a battery module to create a portable, remote recorder, and users can also power it by mains, external DC, and Power over Ethernet. The simple controls on the module can be used to start and stop recordings.

Using Dyn-X technology, users do not have to change channel input ranges, and control is simple. The LAN-XI module’s buttons and LCD screen assist with control and feedback, and LED rings around every channel indicate its status by colour. The LCD screen also shows available memory and overload displays. The user sets up the recorder’s bandwidth, channels, and signal conditioning through the module’s home page, which means that any PC or Smartphone is compatible; this also helps control recording and display feedback.

Other notable characteristics of this standalone recorder:

  • Seven-hour battery that can be swapped in the field;
  • Recording on a solid-state SDHC memory card or removable microSD Flash Card;
  • Interchangeable front panels to adapt to preferred transducer cabling;
  • Automatic configuration of transducer conditioning when using transducers with TEDS; and
  • Remote access to the recorder over LAN.

Durham Instruments recommends the LAN-XI recorder for use in many industries, including general manufacturing, aerospace, automation, food processing, forestry, education, the medical field, the military, mining, packaging, power generation, alternative energy, transportation, and research and development.
