Keystone Steam Supplies carries thermodynamic steam traps from Barnes & Jones and other leading steam trap manufacturers. These traps are rated for pressures of 600 psi and higher. The company’s TK Series disc traps, designed for the automatic removal of condensate and air from steam lines, include many features that promote ease of use and a long service life.

Features and applications

Disc traps have a compact design, which makes installation easy. In addition, the traps offer long wear and corrosion resistance due to the stainless steel construction and hardened seating surfaces.

These steam traps work efficiently in any position, and are ideal for handling light to medium loads. Because there is only one moving part, the traps are low maintenance.

An optional cover is available that is specially designed to provide insulation against heat loss. This will prevent overcycling in adverse atmospheric conditions like wind, rain and snow.

Another feature is a snap opening that provides a purging action in units being drained. The traps also have three individually ported outlet holes, which assures the vertical lift of the disc parallel to the seat. This prevents any rubbing or tilting of the disc.

Some of the typical applications for thermodynamic steam traps include tanks, small dryers, steam tracing, pressing machines, high pressure drips, and industrial processing equipment.

How it works

The disc trap works by using the kinetic energy of flash steam over water to close the trap. When condensate enters, it lifts the disc and discharges from the outlet holes. Once the condensate temperature approaches a high enough temperature, it starts to flash over into steam after entering the trap. The higher flow velocity of this flash steam lowers the pressure under the disc so it snaps closed. The cycle repeats when the flash steam trapped above the disc condenses.
