Solids handling pumps by Gorman-Rupp can process many different fluids

Gorman-Rupp manufactures a wide range of fluid-handling solutions that are available from York Fluid Controls Ltd. This lineup includes the 10 series of solids handling pumps – designed and built specifically for working with solids, corrosive liquids, and slurries. These pump units provide a variety of metallurgy and seal configurations from which to choose, in order to process a number of different kinds of fluids.

Easy to remove clogs

Maintenance is minimal with this Gorman-Rupp series, because it has few moving parts. Users can easily remove clogs, without interfering with piping or using any special tools, through the cover plate opening. Six sizes are available, ranging from 40 to 300 millimetres (mm), and they are made from bronze, cast iron, and CD4MCu or stainless steel. Each pump offers a maximum capacity of 423 litres per second, maximum head of 40 metres, and maximum solids of 76 mm, with a maximum operating temperature of 100 degrees Celsius.

A key feature of each of these solids handling pumps is a two-vane, semi-open solids-handling impeller, which works with solids up to 76 mm in diameter, depending on the pump model. The impeller shroud’s pump-out vanes lower buildup of foreign material behind the impeller and reduce pressure on the seal and bearings to expand the pump’s lifespan. In addition, the removable cover plate offers fast, easy access to the pump interior without disconnecting the piping. Users can access the impeller, seal, and wear plate through this plate for service or inspection.

The 10 series also offers multiple seal options, like double mechanical grease-lubricated seals, self-lubricated mechanical seals, and Gorman-Rupp’s own tungsten titanium carbide double-floating, self-aligning oil-lubricated seals. Also available are fluorocarbon or PTFE elastomers. Finally, each pump has a replaceable wear place that fastens to the cover plate, with no expensive castings to replace. These solids handling pumps are available as basic units for connection to power sources or may be flex-coupled or V-belt-driven by electric motors; users can power them by gasoline or diesel engines too.
