SMC Pneumatics offers numerous sensors, more with IO-Link connectivity

One of these partners, SMC Pneumatics, produces a wide portfolio that includes actuators, connectors, vacuum products, chillers, airline equipment, sensors, and switches. A key benefit of many of these items is that they offer IO-Link connectivity. SMC’s IO-Link-compatible products add new possibilities and expand the range of applications that users can handle.

Three-wire sensor and actuator connection

IO-Link is the first standardized IO technology worldwide for communication with sensors and with actuators. Its powerful point-to-point communication is modelled off of the long-established three-wire sensor and actuator connection, with no additional requirements in terms of the cable material. SMC has mastered this innovation, as well as EtherCAT, Ethernet/IP, and Ethernet/POWERLINK.

Three models of SMC pressure sensors with IO-Link connectivity are available through Advanced Motion & Controls:

• ISE20B-L. A digital pressure sensor that can access measured values and settings from the HMI screen of a PLC when the user pairs it with an IO-Link master.
• ZSE20B-L. A digital vacuum sensor with similar features and functions as the ISE20B-L.
• ISE70/71. A next-generation pressure sensor that provides continuous quantitative values and switched digital outputs when pressure set points are met. Designed for abusive environments that many include splashed coolant, lubricants, or grime.

Other SMC sensors and switches that are IO-Link-compatible: the D-MP actuator position sensor, available in four measurement ranges; the PF3W7-L digital flow switch, for monitoring water and coolant flow; the PF3WR and PF3WS digital flow sensor manifolds, the former being a return path with a sensor; the ISA3-L digital gap checker, for verifying the presence and proximity of a work piece; the PSE200A multi-channel digital pressure sensor monitor, with an easy-to-read colour display; and the PF2M7 digital air flow sensor, compatible with air, nitrogen, argon, or carbon dioxide.

SMC also offers fieldbus systems (EX260), electric actuators (JXCL1), and electronic pressure regulators (ITV-X395) with IO-Link connectivity.
