York Fluid Controls has carved a niche in Canadian industry as a leading distributor of industrial and sanitary liquid-handling equipment. This year, the family-run company observes its 60th anniversary as a major force in the country’s manufacturing landscape. That is six full decades of helping businesses convey liquids.

The company’s present status in Canadian industry is the result of a long journey – one that began in a humble basement.

Thirty-six years in one location

The York Fluid Controls story began in 1960, when entrepreneur Dudley Knapman launched the company in his first family home, selling instrumentation out of his basement. The business grew rapidly enough that Knapman had to move to a proper distribution facility four years later – and then a larger one in 1968.

Expansion continued as the company became more successful. In 1984, York Fluid Controls moved into a new location in Brampton, Ont. This plant expanded in 1988. The company has remained in this Brampton location for 36 years, with a loyal customer base.

As York has grown, so has its unmatched, industry-leading product lines. The company’s market is liquid handling for industry, and that goes for any fluid that flows through pipes or hoses. Sewage, paint, corrosives, food, chemicals, water – no matter what liquid needs to be moved, York has a solution. The company has received more than 55 sales awards for different product lines.

Dudley Knapman’s vision lives on under the helm of his son Mike, the company’s current president and general manager. Today, York Fluid Controls is a major supplier of liquid-handling equipment, from pumps to valves, mixers, and tanks. The company’s staff work closely with customers with difficult applications, offering an extensive range of services – including a repair and test centre, an engineering department, custom fabrication, and a machine and assembly shop.
