A SINAMICS G115D centralized drive system.

HARTING Canada has collaborated with Siemens to develop a perfect, efficient, all-round solution through joint engineering and combined experience. This partnership previously developed a new generation of frequency converters. Now, the two companies have moved forward with the creation of a series of decentralized drive systems, the SINAMICS G115D.

A result of 20 years of intensive collaboration between Siemens and HARTING, the SINAMICS G115D series was developed for horizontal conveyor systems, like those in airports or in intra-logistics.

An internationally active cooperation

These decentralized drive systems are the end result of global collaboration: Siemens and HARTING developed the connector and cabling solutions for inside and outside the devices in different countries, thus establishing an internationally active cooperation for this project. HARTING has been supplying system solutions for connecting decentralized drive units in intra-logistics for decades, and a global team of HARTING engineers blended their connector expertise to find a potent solution.

The two companies combined proved technology with innovation. They started off with evolution of the preceding models of the SINAMICS G115D by focusing on factors like robustness, compactness, and stability. The development of the drive systems focused on a new electronics module, extra drive functionality, and the need for the devices to be built for energy efficiency.

Innovative new connectors from the HARTING har-drive series supplement the proven DIN connectors within the frequency converter inside the device. The HARTING team specially developed these connectors, in partnership with Siemens, for the needs of the drive systems and adapted them to the compact design of the frequency converter. The goal was to offer easy, convenient handling, in addition to safe contact under all mating conditions.

Outside each device are the HARTING Compact interfaces, Han Q8 and Han Q4/2, which are virtually standards today. They are supplemented by M12 circular connectors for signal transmission, while the connections and networking withing the conveyor systems achieve Plug & Play mode due to suitably pre-assembled system cabling.
