The SA-500 compact solid state relay

Mod-Tronic Instruments Ltd. is the Canadian supplier to trust for an unmatched lineup of industrial instrumentation, including a good selection of products by Shinko Technos. This includes the unique SA-500 compact solid state relay. The SA-500 model is designed to help users to keep the cost down for customized systems.

Among the key features that enhance the SA-500 relay are a built-in “varistor” for absorbing external surges and an easily viewable LED status indicator.

With an optional input-side cover

The Shinko SA-500 solid state relay is a highly insulated device with a dielectric strength of 4,000 volts between the input and output. The instrument comes standard with an output-side terminal cover; one for the input side is available upon request. The input supply voltage ranges from four to 32 volts DC. Mod-Tronic carries three distinct models of this versatile unit – the SA-515-Z, the SA-525-Z, and the SA-540-Z – which offer a maximum load current of 15, 25, and 40 A respectively. The output of each model is a zero-voltage switching system.

Other standard specifications of the Shinko SA-500 compact solid state relay:

  • Input current: up to 20 mA;
  • Input recovery voltage: one volt or more;
  • Output load voltage: 75 to 250 volts AC; 45 to 65 hertz;
  • Output surge-on current: 150 A (SA-515-Z), 250 A (SA-525-Z), 400 A (SA-540-Z) per 60-hertz cycle;
  • Output “OFF-state” leakage current: ten mA or less at 60 hertz;
  • Output “ON-state” voltage drop: up to 1.6 volts when applying the maximum load;
  • Output minimum load current: 100 mA; when the load current is lower than the rated load current, a dummy resistor should be used to make the load current at least 100 mA;
  • Dielectric strength: 4,000 volts AC for one minute between input and output terminals; 2,500 volts AC for one minute between input terminal and case;
  • Ambient temperature: -20 to 80 degrees Celsius;
  • Storage temperature: -25 to 85 degrees Celsius;
  • External size: 40 by 58 by 25½ millimetres;
  • Weight: approximately 70 grams;
  • Accessories included: one copy of the instruction manual; and
  • Accessories sold separately: terminal cover and heat sink.
