SEW-EURODRIVE

HARTING and SEW-EURODRIVE have a long history of collaboration over decades.

HARTING Canada is a leading manufacturer and provider of innovative connectivity solutions. For decades, the company’s parent corporation has partnered with SEW-EURODRIVE for numerous successful joint projects. Headquartered in Bruchsal, Baden, the SEW group of companies is a global market leader in drive technology and automation, with a broad range of products, solutions, and services. From individual drives to complete drive systems, this entity offers total user-specific solutions by taking advantage of a comprehensive modular system of electromechanical components, electronic speed control systems, and computer-aided calculation programs.

Major role in automobile production

More than 20 years ago, HARTING offered the Han 10E connector as a solution for making standard drives pluggable in the automobile industry. The Han 10E has since become the standard for motor connectors, by saving time and resources for technicians. With a corresponding housing solution, Han-Drive became the standard for plug-in drives. SEW-EURODRIVE played a key role in the development of these products, as many of their motors were installed in the corresponding applications of automotive companies.

It soon became apparent that one supply line for power would be beneficial for many similar drives in a long facility topology. SEW-EURODRIVE developed pluggable line topologies called MOVIMOT and MOVIPRO. The switchgear moved to decentralized units on or near monitors, resulting in an initiative called DESINA. But despite increasing energy demand, drives and decentralized units became smaller in a trend towards miniaturization. HARTING stepped in with new solutions here.

Soon came new HARTING interface standards, the Han Q 8/0 and Han Q 4/2. These were incorporated into the DESINA standard and other SEW-EURODRIVE products. The Q 4/2 allowed a decentralized subscriber to be supplied with sufficient energy and to conduct bidirectional energy flows in a touch-safe way, while the Q 8/0 ensured a direct drive supply from the decentralized converter. Another solution developed in collaboration between HARTING and SEW-EURODRIVE is the har-flex THR, a solution for the MOVI-C modular electronics system.

These two manufacturers will continue to meet the increasing demand for flexibility with modular systems and for adaptation to increasingly compact electronics integration.
