self-supporting mastic

Densyl Mastic is ideal for sealing and contouring.

Denso North America offers a diverse product range that serves the needs of pipeline and infrastructure companies: petrolatum tape systems, liquid coatings road-repair solutions, and more. Another example is the Densyl Mastic brand of self-supporting mastic. Denso recommends this solution highly for sealing cable ducts in concrete and in waterproofing tasks.

In addition to these important applications, workers also use Densyl Mastic to contour flanges, couplings, valves, and irregular surfaces.

No volatile organic compounds

Densyl Mastic is a cold-applied, self-supporting mastic, a petrolatum compound with inert siliceous fillers and vegetable fibres. Many use it for sealing, filling, and caulking applications that need protective, waterproof, and non-setting mastics. Customers also choose it to contour tank bases and profile irregular surfaces. Users apply this mastic before tape applications, usually in conjunction with primer, petrolatum tape, or bituminous tape. The high sealing power is ideal for users who have to seal cable ducts in concrete and/or protect them from moisture.

Features of this self-supporting mastic from Denso include the following: excellent sealing properties; no volatile organic compounds; ability to adhere to metal, PVC, polyethylene, and concrete; resistance against water, acid, and salt; simple application; inertness and environmental stability; minimal surface preparation; compliance with the AWWA C217 standard; and compliance with CSA Group’s CSA Z245.30 standard. This mastic also has a specific gravity of 1.39, a specific volume of 720 cubic centimetres per kilogram, a flash point higher than 180 degrees Celsius, and a maximum service temperature of 90 degrees Celsius.

The first step in applying Densyl Mastic on metal surfaces is to remove all of the loose scale, rust, or other foreign matter from the surfaces to prepare them, according to SSPC SP2 “Hand Tool Cleaning” or SP3 “Power Tool Cleaning”. A high-pressure water wash is also acceptable, provided that the pressure falls between 3,000 and 7,000 pounds per square inch. Next, the user should apply a thin film of appropriate primer to the surface and then mould the mastic to a rounded configuration to fill irregular shapes and reduce all sharp-edged surfaces.

Trust Denso for great solutions.
