IR self-feed drills are available from Dobco.

Ingersoll Rand (IR) construction equipment has been getting the job done for more than 150 years, and Canadian businesses purchase them through Dobco Equipment Ltd. The lineup includes three series of self-feed drills: the Bant-A-Matic, Par-A-Matic, and Super Par-A-Matic series.

These IR self-feed drills offer the necessary selection, performance, and precision to automate a broad variety of secondary machining tasks.

From aerospace to recreational vehicles

All three models come with several important features. They use compressed air for the spindle rotation and the feed/controls function. Each has a reliable rotary-vane air motor that provides high power-to-size performance, which expands flexibility in machine design with minimal tool size and weight. Only simple pneumatic circuitry is necessary for installation. Workers may use these tools individually or in conjunction with other IR electric and pneumatic tools. The speeds range from 350 to 19,000 revolutions per minute, and Dobco can supply twin head spindles.

Each of these feed drills can be installed through a straightforward setup procedure. First, the thread guard should be removed (left-hand thread), and then the drill should be inserted in the mounting fixture. Next, advance the drill to the work piece and set the end of the stroke screw to the depth of the cut. The Hydraulic Check should be set to contact about 1/8 of an inch from the part. The user should attach the air line to the main inlet, install 9600 bleed valves, and attach the air line to the start and retract ports and buttons. Then adjust the feed rate down to zero and start the drill for a dry run; increase the feed rate as required and put the part in the fixture for a test run.

Among the relevant applications:

  • Aerospace. Rivet holes, including wing-frame mounting holes.
  • Appliances. Panel/frame holes, such as shipping bases.
  • Furniture. Dowel holes for chair seats, frames, or backs.
  • Metal fabrication. Cast components and other sheet metal.
  • Recreational vehicles. ATVs, snowmobiles, and trailers.
  • Vehicle components. Engine mounts or hinges.
  • Vehicle frames. Holes for body components.
  • Windows, doors, and cabinets.
