Daemar offers high-pressure rotary shaft seals.

Daemar Inc. has earned a stellar reputation for its vast inventory of essential components for industry. The selection includes several kinds of high-pressure rotary shaft seals. Standard shaft seals are designed for pressure-free applications, but these are made for tasks in which equipment functions under high pressure, combined with the rotating movement of the shaft. Advantages of these seals include lower parasitic friction, lower heat buildup, less seal and shaft wear, reduced torque generation, and reduced power generation required.

Optimized design and geometry

These units can withstand pressure loads such as those in hydraulic cylinders, along with the extra friction between the seal lip and shaft, heat, and wear of the seal lip; this can result in premature seal failure with typical shaft seals. High-pressure rotary shaft seals are recommended for their efficient, effective sealing performance. Their optimized design and geometry help them function well under pressure of up to 25 bar.

Each of these seals has a solid cross-section and is designed to seal a pressurized lubricant and possess hydrodynamic waves that encounter the pressurized lubricant. These liquid waves pumps lubricant into the engaged sealing interface when the shaft spins, resulting in reduced friction wear and seal-generated heat. The lower seal temperature indicates better retention of high-pressure extrusion resistance and other material properties.

Factors that affect the sealing include the type of seal carrier, clearance opening size, seal materials, shaft rotary speed, belligerence of the hydrodynamic wave, the application temperature, and the level of heat transfer. Daemar supplies the following models of high-pressure rotary shaft seals:

  • BABSL premium medium-pressure double-lip oil seal – with an integrated steel reinforcement element and outer diameter cover with rubber for a tight seal with the housing bore;
  • Style HP1 – outer diameter from three to 53 centimetres (cm), pressure up to five bar;
  • Style HP2 – outer diameter from three to 53 cm, pressure up to 10 bar; and
  • Style HP3 – outer diameter from 46 to 520 millimetres, pressure up to 25 bar.

Customized seal dimensions are available for specific needs and applications. Daemar can produce these with short lead times.
