Continental Conveyor offers a complete line of screw conveyors and accessories to meet a wide range of bulk material handling needs. These versatile pieces of equipment can move materials horizontally, on an incline or vertically, and can be used as feeders, distributors, collectors or mixers, depending on the type selected.

The lineup

Continental Conveyor’s lineup includes inclined screw conveyors, which can be used in the inclined plane and, when space allows, it can be a very economical method of both elevating and conveying simultaneously. It is important to understand, however, that as the angle of inclination increases, the capacity of the given unit rapidly decreases. It is also necessary to increase the conveyor speed as the angle of inclination becomes greater, in order to overcome the tendency of the material to fall back.

Inclined conveyors are not typically recommended for use as feeders for accurately measuring material flow. Instead, a separate horizontal feeder conveyor is required if an accurate flow rate is necessary.

The company also manufactures vertical screw conveyors, which are an extremely efficient and effective method of elevating and distributing bulk materials. For example, these units have fewer moving parts, so they avoid many of the difficulties commonly encountered with other types of elevating equipment. They have the capability to convey up to 6,000 cubic feet per hour using a 16-inch diameter unit to a height of about 75 feet, depending on material weight and the drive arrangement. In addition, these transfer material from the horizontal to the vertical plane very efficiently.

The advantages

These screw conveyors feature a compact design, which allows them to fit easily into restricted areas that would otherwise be unsuitable for most types of bulk material handling equipment. They can even be equipped to either heat or cool while performing the task, and can be weatherproof, dust-tight and rodent-proof with the proper covers and gasketing. In addition, they are simple to install and support, require little maintenance, and are designed and built in accordance with the standards established by the industry, which makes them completely interchangeable with equipment from other recognized manufacturers.

Additional details

Many companies are unsure of which type of screw conveyor is best suited to their needs. Continental Conveyor’s engineering department has the expertise to make specific recommendations based on the requirements of the particular application. For more information, contact Continental Conveyor
