Continental screw conveyors are versatile systems.

Continental Conveyor Ltd. has been designing and manufacturing the best material-handling systems in Canada since 1963. Among the company’s most popular products is a full lineup of screw conveyor equipment for a broad variety of bulk material tasks, as well as accessories. These versatile conveyors move items horizontally, vertically, or on inclines.

Depending on the individual models themselves, these screw conveyors can be extremely useful as feeders, distributors, collectors, or mixers.

Inclined and vertical systems

Screw conveyor equipment is available in two main designs – inclined and vertical. Inclined screw conveyors can be used in the inclined plane, providing an economical way to elevate and convey at the same time when there is sufficient space. It is important to note that the unit capacity decreases quickly as the inclination angle rises and that increasing the conveyor speed is necessary as the inclination angle increases to prevent items from falling back. Feeders are more effective for measuring material flow than inclined conveyors are, so a separate horizontal feeder conveyor is necessary for accurate flow rates.

Vertical screw conveyor equipment offers an effective, efficient means of elevating and distributing bulk material. As these conveyors have fewer moving parts, they offer less of the difficulty that is common with other elevating systems. Vertical conveyors can move up to 6,000 cubic feet an hour with a 16-inch-diameter unit as high as 75 feet, depending on drive arrangement and material weight. They also convey material from horizontal to vertical planes efficiently.

Due to their compact design, vertical screw conveyors achieve easy fits into restricted areas where other kinds of bulk-material-handling systems cannot work. Users can equip them to heat or cool during conveying applications, and covers and gaskets can make them weatherproof, dust-proof, and rodent-proof. These systems can be easily installed, and maintenance is minimal. Continental designs and builds them according to industry standards, making them interchangeable with other major manufacturers’ products.

As many customers are unsure which screw conveyors are most appropriate for their unique needs, Continental engineers are happy to make specific recommendations according to the relevant applications.
