MicroFUSION SCR power controllers, manufactured by Control Concepts

Control Concepts Inc. is a leader in manufacturing SCR power controllers, with nearly 40 years logged in the business, and its products are available through Thermo-Kinetics Measurement & Control. One of the company’s innovations is MicroFUSION, a high-performance digital SCR controller that adapts to both analog and digital environments. These devices are more reliable and affordable than ever before and have been upgraded to leave even smaller footprints.

Three different models available

MicroFUSION SCR power controllers are now available from Control Concepts in models ranging from eight to 400 Amps, with the improved performance of a third-generation controller. They come with standard or high-performance control and include universal input voltage that complies with strict international safety/quality standards by UL, cUL, CE, and RoHS.

Thermo-Kinetics supplies three different MicroFUSION models, as follows:

• Single phase. Includes auto-ranging input voltage, AC output from 16 to 400 Amps at 50 degrees Celsius and 6,000 feet, adjustable soft start, missing-cycle detection, dedicated run/stop bit, several Fieldbus options, easy setup via Plug-n-Play USB, and thermistor.
• Three phases. All the features of the single-phase model, but with four- and six-SCR configurations. Can be ordered as Delta Wye, four-wire Wye, or Inside Delta.
• Multizone. A single-phase version with up to ten MicroFUSION units and an external panel mount. Reduces enclosure size; also lowers air-conditioning requirements by moving heat outside the enclosure. Includes 100-kA SCCR certification and complies with IP65, UL Type 4. Not recommended for new designs.

MicroFUSION controllers use SCRs with a 20x surge current rating and an over-current trip network. When users incorporate these SCR power controllers with appropriate branch-rated Class T fuses, semiconductor fuses are unnecessary.

Other notable features include the following: setup that enables configuration for zero-cross, phase-angle, and zero-cross into a transformer; digital connectivity through Ethernet, PROFINET, PROFIBUS, Modbus RTU and TCP, and EtherCat; and an optional remote display for accessing MicroFUSION from outside and enclosure. Additional options include DIN rail mount, external heatsink, and liquid-cooled heatsink.

Control Concepts also produces other three-phase power controllers such as the FUSION and Compact FUSION.
