Freezer sensors are subject to false alarms when doors are opened and temperature momentarily rises. The Thermal Vial temperature sensing system, from Minco and available through Mod-Tronic Instruments, features a container that acts as a thermal ballast to delay reaction and provides a repeatable time response. The system is ideal for ultra low freezers, cryogenic storage, blood banks and other medical and scientific storage applications to -200 degrees C — anywhere accurate sensing of the contents instead of the air is a vital concern.

The system includes a precision 316 Stainless Steel Resistance Temperature Detector (RTD) probe, match calibrated 4-20 mA transmitter in a NEMA 4X sealed enclosure, ruggedized flexible cable, and a fluid-filled 175-ml vial that lets the sensor mimic the thermal response of other freezer contents. An integral loop powered LCD indicator is optional.

It can be filled with cryopreservatives, alcohol, water, ethylene glycol solutions, or any other solution to accurately emulate the material being processed or stored.

The sealed Thermal Vial eliminates the problems of spillage and contamination of contents because the probe does not contact the liquid in the vial. The large (50 mm by 50 mm) footprint provides extra stability on a shelf or rack, while allowing easy repositioning.

The RTD Thermal Vial Temperature Sensing System builds on existing Minco sensors with additional options such as vial size, multiple thermowell configurations and three levels of calibration accuracy to ensure that customer requirements are always satisfied.

NIST-traceable certification of compliance and calibration data are provided at no additional charge.
