The Sauermann Si-CA 8500 portable analyzer

The Sauermann Group is a major manufacturer of world-class industrial test and measurement instrumentation, which is available in Canada through Chevrier Instruments Inc. A major Sauermann innovation is the Si-CA 8500 portable analyzer – recommended highly for combustion, flue gas, and emissions. Accurate, reliable, robust, and fast, the Si-CA 8500 is a must for boiler, engine, furnace, and other common combustion applications, operating with as many as nine gas sensors.

With built-in thermoelectric chiller

The Si-CA 8500 works with low levels of nitric oxide, nitrogen dioxide, and sulphur dioxide. Other major features include stack gas velocity, high-accuracy NDIR sensors, and an upgraded memory that can store 2,000 tests. The instrument’s two primary advantages are real-time software with data logging and a built-in thermoelectric chiller with an automatic condensate drain.

The updated EGAS software package that comes with this portable analyzer can save and graph information in real time, in the field with a laptop or in the lab with a personal computer. The user can automatically log data for a specific number of tests within a determined time period. Either wireless Bluetooth communications or a USB cable establishes the communications between the Si-CA 8500 and the computer or laptop. Users can export info from the EGAS software to other spreadsheet programs for extra flexibility in creating detailed emission reports.

The internal thermoelectric chiller removes the water vapour from the flue-gas sample quickly and efficiently, to stop combustion gas from bubbling from the gas phase into the condensate. The built-in condensate drain pump automatically pumps the accumulated water out through the bottom of the unit, making it more convenient for users.

Other notable features of this portable analyzer from Chevrier:

  • rechargeable battery pack;
  • 100-240 VAC/50-60-hertz battery charger;
  • gas-sampling probe with hose;
  • stack gas and air temperature;
  • draft and differential pressure;
  • calculated values for efficiency, excess air, and carbon-dioxide percentage;
  • protective carrying case;
  • calibration certificate; and
  • operating manual.

This instrument can use a maximum of nine gas sensors, six electrochemical-type sensors, three NDIR-type sensors, and an optional PID sensor for VOC measurement. Filter replacement is very simple.
