Sandpiper pumps are available in Canada through York Fluid Controls. One example is the HDF2 heavy-duty flap valve pump, a self-priming unit that has remained a staple of the industry since 1965. It handles solids of up to 50 millimetres.

The HDF2 is trusted widely for its excellence in myriad applications, including industrial wastewater, abrasive slurries, and suspended, non-suspended, or line-sized solids.

Configured with bottom discharge porting

Available with thick walls constructed of aluminum, cast-iron, stainless, or plastics, this flap valve pump runs dry and comes with heavy-duty castings, heavy-duty thick diaphragms, and top suction for self-cleaning. Like all Sandpiper heavy-duty flap pumps, the HDF2 is configured with a bottom discharge porting, which stops settling solids from shortening the pump’s lifespan while offering better suction lift.

Technical specifications of this flap valve pump include the following: discharge port size of two inches NPT (F); capacity from zero to 208 gallons per minute; an air distribution valve with a no-lube, no-stall design; heads up to 125 pounds per square inch (psi), or 289 feet of water; maximum operating pressure of 100 psi; displacement/stroke of 0.47 gallons; and weights of 88 pounds (aluminum), 130 pounds (cast iron), and 140 pounds (stainless steel). Add 35 pounds for the cast-iron centre.

The HDF2 is one of many great air-operated double-diaphragm pumps, or AODD pumps, that Sandpiper offers through York Fluid Controls, the stocking distributor for the manufacturer. With a typical single-diaphragm pump, solids cannot pass through and end up settling inside; this not only impedes the pump’s operational ability, but can shorten its lifespan. In each AODD pump, the bottom discharge allows solids to pass through, and the flap check valve helps with handling large solids.
