Pumps for meat products, available from Sandpiper

York Fluid Controls Ltd. carries pumping solutions by Sandpiper, one of North Americaʼs top producers of air-operated double-diaphragm (AODD) pumps. One of the manufacturer’s specialties for more than 50 years has been the “Blood Pump,” an AODD unit specifically designed for the unique challenges of the meat and poultry processing sectors.

The distributor offers four models of Blood Pumps by Sandpiper, three of them metallic, with maximum flows ranging from 70 to 310 gallons per minute.

Blood, organs, fat, and waste

Tough pumps that can handle blood, organs, fat, and waste from animals are necessary in both meat and poultry production. The Blood Pump from York Fluid Controls fits the bill with its special flap-valve design, which can pump entrained solids that clog standard ball valve pumps. The flaps allow solids as large as the pipe to pass through, like feathers, pig hair, organs, and casing-room waste, while the thick, robust chambers withstand abrasive blood flow.

Each Blood Pump has features that allow the user to handle many different steps in these production processes. The unique top-suction/bottom-discharge porting stops solids from collecting inside the unit. With efficiency and optimized performance, the pump is ideal for water and wastewater management too, since pumps run constantly in these industries. This series has one-, two-, and three-inch pumps with the highest flow capacity in the market, on top of the lowest air consumption in its class. Minimal flow velocity changes for better handling of thick, viscous fluids, and performance never declines over time.

Easy servicing with the exclusive Sandpiper ESADS air-distribution system is another key benefit. This allows access to both the pilot and main air valves without removing the pump from operation, whereas other AODD pumps require a full tear-down to reach their pilot valves.

Bleeding, clean-in-place and sanitizing spray and foaming solutions (rinsing, scalding, hair and feather removal, and evisceration), and final packaging are among the meat-processing stages that work most effectively with Sandpiper. The Blood Pump is recommended for the first two stages, and a Standard Duty Ball Pump is better for packaging.
