Vibra Finish offers sandblasting among its many types of finishing services.

Vibra Finish has provided world-class metal finishing services for close to 50 years. The company has mastered all kinds of finishing methods, like burnishing, surface engineering, deburring, rust removal, and vibratory finishing. This portfolio of services also includes sandblasting.

Sandblasting is a process for cleaning or finishing surfaces with a tool that shoots out pressurized sand or other abrasive materials at a high speed. This method comes with several distinct advantages over other methods.

Effectiveness, economy, and versatility

Vibra Finish identifies three main benefits of using sandblasting in finishing applications:

  • Effectiveness. This method is renowned for its ability to clean dirt and debris effectively, as well as grinding rust, paint, and corrosion from metal surfaces to product the smoothest finish. To maximize efficiency, users should replace the entire load in the machine when the abrasive has broken down too much. They should also avoid adding new material to old loads, as that diminishes the performance of abrasive significantly and raises the level of dust.
  • Economy. Sandblasting is conducted before finishing to replace sanding, wire brushing, and pickling; as it cleans the surface chemically and mechanically, no other cleaning is usually required – thus saving a lot of time. The technique is as much as 75 per cent quicker than hand cleaning. In addition, abrasives for blasting are relatively inexpensive and reusable, and the technique offers high productivity per hour per dollar of equipment.
  • Versatility. Sandblasting can achieve many different types of finishing, with the final effect depending on such factors as the hardness of the abrasive, its particle size, the speed of the abrasive stream, the angle of the abrasive gun and its distance away, the method of application and the workflow. Depending on the desired result, users can apply a wide range of abrasives, including aluminum oxide, plastic abrasives, silicon carbide, corn-cob grit, or glass beads. Abrasive grits, for example, leave a dull satin finish and are compatible with more aggressive applications, while glass beads texturize, descale, or remove light burrs and die-cast flash for a smooth, bright satin finish.
