Safety circuit by Clippard reduces injury risk with two-hand function

A key example is Clippard Minimatic’s unique Two-Hand, No-Tie-Down (THNTD) safety circuit. This is a specially designed unit that requires operators to use both hands – thus keeping the hands out of the way of moving machine parts and other dangers.

This two-hand design is an excellent way to prevent worker hand injuries, which are common in factory environments, especially when machines have no safeguards or when workers forget to lock them out before maintenance. The THNTD circuit adds another protective measure to this potential work hazard.

This safety circuit incorporates the Clippard VA-012 circuit module, a self-contained modular circuit board with the proper interconnections to ensure an easy, quick installation. The unit is available with green or red palm buttons, or without palm buttons; components for putting the circuit together are also available separately, including modular valves and palm buttons, plus many colours of polyurethane tubing.

Output functions that the THNTD safety circuit can achieve include the following:

• Maintained output, when holding both palm buttons;
• Momentary output of about 50 milliseconds in duration;
• Cancelable output, which cancels after tripping a normally open three-way limit valve; and
• Cancelable output after a time delay, in which the output terminates after a designated time duration.

Other specifications: measurement dimensions of 6¼ by 3½ by 3¼ inches; a temperature range from zero to 60 degrees Celsius; and a pressure range from 50 to 120 psig. Additional materials in assembly include a three-way modular multi-piloted valve, two four-way modular valves, a THNTD circuit manifold, four ¼-inch universal elbow push-quick fittings, and a 5/32-inch push-quick plugs

The Clippard Minimatic THNTD circuit is one of several Machine Safety products available. Wainbee cautions its customers that a single product does not provide a complete safe system, but is designed to work in conjunction with the entire machine network to achieve a safe goal.
