Four Zinsser restoration solutions from Rust-Oleum

Zinsser manufactures a wide range of protective paints, coatings, and more that are available through Rust-Oleum Corporation. Some of these offerings are recommended for protecting basements from damage in case of a flood or fire, but Zinsser also makes restoration products for basements after these disasters have already occurred.

This lineup of restoration products comprises three kinds of primers, including one specifically for killing odours, and one mould- and mildew-proof interior paint.

Blocking odours and stains

Available in five sizes, Zinsser B-I-N shellac-based sealer primer is one that many contractors keep in their vans, as it covers everything unwanted. This solution is the original, pigmented, stain-killing sealer that beats all competitors at blocking stains, odours, and wood knots permanently. Recommended for interior and spot exterior use, the primer works great under all topcoats. It seals knots, sap streaks, and pet, smoke, or musty odours; it also sticks to all surfaces without sanding. Drying is lightning fast, with re-coating possible in 45 minutes.

Rust-Oleum also supplies an advanced version of Zinsser B-I-N, which offers excellent stain blocking for whole-surface interior priming and exterior spot priming. This solution blends quick dry time, low odour, strong hide and stain blocking for new construction, remodelling, and fire and water restoration. Benefits include great odour sealing, excellent stain blocking, top adhesion, enamel holdout, and sealing of knots, sap, and tannin.

The third of these restoration products is Zinsser odour-killing primer, available in three sizes. This is a low-odour, water-based solution that kills existing odours on interior surfaces. It applies white and dries quickly for a clear, low-sheen finish to seal odours in permanently. Compatible with all clear finishes and paints, both water- and oil-based, it is designed to eliminate difficult odours from pets, food, cigarette smoke, and fire or smoke damage. Rust-Oleum recommends it for all interior surfaces, including wood floors, cabinets, walls and ceilings. Dries in 45 minutes.

Finally, Zinsser Perma-White mould- and mildew-proof interior paint is a high-performance, low-odour coating that enhances and protects moisture-prone areas. Its formulation stops mildew growth on paint film in the harshest conditions.
