Durham Instruments is proud to carry a wide selection of products from Measurement Specialties, a global designer and manufacturer of sensors and sensor-based systems. The PT101 Position Sensor is part of this comprehensive offering.

Based on the original string pot design that dates back to the late 1960s, the PT101 is known for its quality and easy installation, which is why it’s in use in applications across the globe, from aircraft structural testing and hydraulic cylinder control, to valve stem opening and factory automation.

Sensor features and advantages

The PT101 sensor is available in full stroke ranges up to 100 inches, and provides a voltage feedback signal linearly proportional to the position of its traveling stainless steel measuring cable. In addition, the sensor is a reliable choice. It has repeatability of ± 0.02 per cent full stroke, and its resolution is essentially infinite.

There are many benefits to using the PT101 sensor. A major advantage is that it can be installed in minutes, and doesn’t require perfect parallel alignment. The user simply secures the base to a fixed surface and attaches the measuring cable to the moving object.

The unit is also rugged. The plastic-hybrid precision potentiometer features a powder painted and anodized aluminum enclosure, enabling it to operate in temperatures ranging from -40 to 90 degrees C (-40 to 200 degrees F), and withstand vibrations up to 2,000 Hertz.

Additional details

The PT101 is ideal for industrial automation and testing applications. It’s one of the many high-quality products from Measurement Specialties available in Canada through Durham Instruments. The company also carries a wide selection of Measurement Specialties’ accelerometers, display and panel meters, encoders, load cells, transmitters, inclinometers and much more.
