Górnicze Zakłady Dolomitowe benefited highly from a Rosta product in Siewierz, Poland.

When a company has lasted for more than 75 years, its history becomes a lengthy string of success stories. Such is the case with Rosta, which brings its technological expertise to Canada through Rosta Inc. The company’s high-end elements not only make industrial machinery work, they also save businesses money. Take the case of an aggregate company that cut maintenance time and costs with a Rosta motor base.

An improvement in productivity

One of the largest aggregates in Poland, Górnicze Zakłady Dolomitowe (GZD) was using a crusher, equipped with a 110-kilowatt motor connecting the drive with eight-SPC 7500 V-belts, to crush rocks at its Siewierz quarry. This motor was mounted on a traditional sliding setup, creating a fixed connection between pulleys. Due to the high work load, broken belts and maintenance caused frequent production shutdown. The high impact and huge load damaged the belts and motor bearings. Three personnel were needed for the time-consuming maintenance, which lowered productivity.

Following a thorough analysis of the situation, the company turned to Rosta for a solution.

Rosta recommended its motor base MB 70×800. A self- and automatic-tensioning unit, the MB 70×800 offered compensation of belt elongations that resulted in higher drive efficiency and less downtime. The product also dampened peak loads, required no realignment, and offered longer service life for all drive components.

GZD invested in the motor base and saw immediate benefits. The crusher’s belts lasted four times longer and needed no more re-tensioning or realignment of pulleys. The unit saved 13 hours a week in maintenance and minimized damage to belts, pulleys, and bearings. The MB 70×800 also compensated the shock loads, which happened with every rock dropped into the machine, and prevented belts from taking up the loads. The company saw higher productivity and higher yield, and the frequent, unexpected production stops were no longer an issue.

“The Rosta motor base increases our productivity greatly,” GZD’s maintenance manager said, “as the constant interruptions caused by the maintenance of the belts could be reduced to a minimum.” This is typical of the outcomes of trusting Rosta.
