Rosta's headquarters in Hunzenschwil, Switzerland

For more than three decades now, Rosta Inc. has been supplying world-renowned rubber suspension solutions for industrial equipment to Canadian businesses. This is a tradition that goes back 77 years on a worldwide basis – more than three-quarters of a century of manufacturing great machine components for customers around the globe. Obviously, Rosta has not always been the success story it is today. Like all companies, it had humble origins.

A new rubber spring element

It all started in 1944, in the Swiss village of Staufen. That was where an entrepreneur named Ernest Rohr was commissioned to create a simple, efficient solution for supporting axles in truck trailers. Rohr developed a new type of rubber spring element, which he built to support, dampen, and suspend vehicle axles. Once he had patented this alternative to standard axle suspension, he founded a new company, which his family owned and operated. He christened it with a unique name, Rosta: a mix of his surname, Rohr, with the company’s hometown, Staufen.

This new company grew quickly over the following decade. The expansion was so rapid that in 1955, the headquarters had to relocate to a larger plant in Hunzenschwil. It was not long before Rosta rubber suspension products became the international standard in general mechanical engineering as the company expanded to other countries.

Rosta opened its Canadian branch, Rosta Inc., in 1988. Based in Goodwood, Ont., this subsidiary continues to function as a sales and distribution entity for Rosta rubber suspension elements. Rosta Inc. has succeeded through a wide network of sales staff that know how to meet the needs of end users across the country.

The corporation still maintains its Hunzenschwil global headquarters today. As Rosta thrives in Canada, it remains a worldwide force in rubber-suspension, oscillating-conveyor, and tensioning technology. The company exports more than 90 per cent of its products and owns six subsidiaries and dozens of distribution partners around the globe. Rosta’s influence covers a wide international network, with additional locations in Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Australia, China, and the United States. That is the Rosta story.
