Most belt drives consume a lot of unnecessary energy. In fact, five to 15 per cent of energy is consumed due to belt slippage, according to Rosta. However, the provider of rubber suspension elements says it can help.

The problem is that most belt drives waste energy as a result of the inefficient torque transmission of loose belts. The spring-loaded Rosta motorbase automatically compensates the belt slack and saves on energy costs. The motorbase offers ideal belt tension, constant transmission of nominal torque, less energy consumption, and longer belt life — up to three times longer than belt sets exposed to continuous heat-generating slippage. In addition, the Rosta motorbase enables fast belt changing — just minutes because the setting mechanism allows a safe belt change without realignment of the pulley parallelism. Plus, there is no need for periodic compensation of belt elongation because it’s a maintenance-free tensioning system.

The Rosta motorbase is available in various styles. Type MB 50 is the most universal self-tensioning base for all friction belt drives with 7.5 to 45 kW electric motors, the company says. It features two internal cardanic bushings, powerful front side pretensioning devices, as well as a bolt retainer for easy and safe fixation.

Rosta has been supplying various industries in Canada with rubber suspension elements and special machine components since 1988. Based in Uxbridge, Ont., the company has a staff of experts who work closely with customers to select or design components to meet their requirements. The result is a long-lasting and reliable product.
