Rosta Inc. celebrates 30 years of success in Canadian industry

Rosta moved to its current global headquarters in Hunzenschwil, Switzerland back in 1955.

It takes a lot of skill, expertise, and dedication for a manufacturing company to stay in business for many years. This year, Rosta Inc. is observing 30 years of providing the best rubber suspension components for many important industries in Canada. But Rosta’s success is not limited to this country. Indeed, the corporation has been providing great technological solutions for customers around the world for nearly three-quarters of a century.

Humble origins in Europe

It all started in 1944, in the village of Staufen, Switzerland, when a man named Ernest Rohr was commissioned to develop a simple and efficient solution to support the axles of truck trailers. In response, Rohr came up with a new kind of rubber spring element, which he built to support, dampen, and suspend vehicle axles. After patenting this alternative to standard axle suspension, he founded a new company, owned and operated by his family, and combined the family surname with the name of their hometown to create a unique company name: Rosta.

This company grew over the next decade. In 1955, its headquarters moved to Hunzenschwil, Switzerland, where it remains today. Rosta elements soon became an international standard in general mechanical engineering, as the company expanded to other countries.

It was in 1988 when the Canadian chapter of the Rosta story began: that was the year that the company opened Rosta Inc., which still operates as a sales and distribution facility for Rosta elements in Goodwood, Ont. To this day, the company uses a wide network of distributors and sales personnel to meet the needs of end users all across Canada.

As Rosta continues to thrive in Canada, it also remains a worldwide force in rubber suspension components, as well as oscillating conveyors and tensioning technology. Today, the corporation exports more than 90 per cent of its products and owns six subsidiaries and dozens of distribution partners around the globe. Locations in Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Australia, China, and the United States keep Rosta’s glowing reputation alive everywhere.
