Rosta's original facility in Switzerland

Since its establishment in 1988, Rosta Inc. has been providing its world-famous rubber-suspension solutions for industrial machinery to Canadian manufacturers. This is a tradition that actually goes back 78 years in a global context: more than three-quarters of a century of producing top equipment components for companies around the world.

As big a success as Rosta is today, it had to start somewhere. Like all large corporations, its history stems from some humble origins in 1944.

Years of rapid expansion

That was the year when a Swiss entrepreneur named Ernest Rohr, based in the village of Staufen, was commissioned to make a simple, efficient solution for supporting axles in truck trailers. Rohr developed a new type of rubber spring element, which he created to support, dampen, and suspend vehicle axles. When he had patented this alternative to standard axle suspension, he established a new business, both owned and operated by his family. By blending his surname, Rohr, with the name of his hometown, Staufen, he christened the company with a unique name: Rosta.

Over the next decade, the company grew quickly. So rapid was the expansion that the headquarters had to move to a larger facility in Hunzenschwil in 1955. Soon, Rosta expanded to other countries, and its rubber-suspension products became the international standard in general mechanical engineering.

Rosta opened its Canadian branch, Rosta Inc., in the late 1980s in Goodwood, Ont. This subsidiary continues to function as a sales and distribution entity for Rosta rubber-suspension elements today. Rosta Inc. has succeeded through a broad network of sales staff who know how to satisfy the requirements of end users from coast to coast.

The corporation still maintains its global headquarters in Hunzenschwil today. Rosta continues to thrive in Canada while remaining a global force in rubber-suspension, oscillating-conveyor, and tensioning technology. The company exports more than 90 per cent of its products and owns six subsidiaries, with dozens of distribution partners, around the world. With additional locations in Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Australia, China, and the United States, Rosta has strong influence over a broad international network.
