A recycling company in Switzerland benefited from Rosta elements replacing rubber dampers.

For more than three-quarters of a century, Rosta has been making a difference. That includes more than 30 years in Canada through its local affiliate, Rosta Inc. From rubber spring elements to elastic joints and more, Rosta solutions improve production in a number of major industries – including recycling and waste management.

One notable example occurred a few years ago, when a Swiss recycling dealer turned to Rosta to improve a machine’s output. As always, Rosta found the perfect answer.

Significant loss in capacity

Edi Recycling was celebrating the recent opening of a new plant in Lyss, Switzerland. But it was not long before the company realized that its main machine was delivering a lower output rate than required. This was because the equipment had insufficient rubber dampers to alleviate the oscillations effectively at the recycling filter. The high residual vibrations were being transferred to the steel construction, leading to a significant loss in capacity. This was bringing productivity down as a whole.

Something had to be done right away. So mwn GmbH, the company that had provided the machine for Edi, contacted Rosta for a solution.

The local Rosta team analyzed the situation and found that the installed rubber dampers could not handle the load. The answer: replace the rubber dampers with eight Rosta AB elements – specifically, AB 50 and AB 45.

These elements are maintenance-free elastic joints constructed to support free oscillating vibrating screens in various models. They support propulsion power in the conveying direction and provide good linear guidance. Rosta designs them to act as springs – and also to absorb high vibration quickly and effectively.

Edi installed the elastic joints, and results were immediate. The company saw a large increase in throughput and productivity. Other benefits included a higher delivery rate, lower noise emissions, protection of the entire mechanical system, and no need to reinforce the substructure.

“The fact that the AB elements are more expensive than the rubber buffers is justifiable because of their effectiveness,” mwn managing director Elias Nützi said. “The price difference is negligible, looking at the gain in productivity.”
