roller mill belts

Roller mills are typically used for flour and corn.

Megadyne-Jason is a premier source of machine belts for many industries. This wide portfolio includes roller mill belts – for roller mills, commonly used in food processing. Businesses use these machines for such applications as grinding grains and barley to produce bread, flour, and beer. Roller mills can also be used to make a variety of powders and chemical products.

Functional slippage under jamming conditions

For roller mills in which the backside pulleys have reverse directions and relative slippage is required when rolls are jammed, Megadyne-Jason makes double-sided mill belts. These mills are common for corn, fruit, rice, and flour. Ribbed profiles on certain belts allow functional slippage under jamming conditions and absorb the resulting torque spikes.

Three types of roller mill belts are available:

  • Synchronous with PV back. The best solution when slippage and power are necessary. The synchronous side is available in RPP or STD profiles; the ribbed side is available in PV-K or PV-L profiles. Widths from 12-36 ribs; lengths from 1.552-2.4 metres.
  • Double-sided synchronous. The standard solution, available in a full range with RPP or STD profiles. May be manufactured in standard, silver, or gold structures. Length of 1.778 metres; widths of 60 or 75 millimetres.
  • Double-sided Poly-V. For applications requiring minimal noise and in which slippage is a key factor. Available in PV-K or PV-L profiles. Length of 1.765 metres; widths of 22 or 26 ribs.

Two recent case studies illustrate the effectiveness of these roller mill belts. One customer had a drive using a competitor’s standard synchronous belt with a PV back, but the high load caused pulley wear and tooth jumps that damaged the cords and belts. Megadyne-Jason recommended its synchronous 8M RPP gold belt with 12 ribs and PV-L profile. This belt’s high breaking-strength cords got the job done.

In another case, the customer was using a set of synchronous belts with a PV back, but this caused tooth jump and a need for higher power transmission in limited space. The solution: a 35-rib, double-sided PV-L belt, which yielded a smooth, powerful, narrow drive.
