The RMF varnish-removal system

Wainbee Filtration supplies reliable, efficient equipment for the demanding conditions and remote locations in the wind-power industry. RMF Systems (a Des-Case brand) manufactures some of these products, including a unique model of varnish-removal system. This is the most complete varnish-removal and -prevention system available on the industrial market, removing oxidation by-products and preventing varnish formation during cool-down. RMF recommends it for use in general manufacturing, mining, steel, power generation, and pulp and paper.

Compatible with all mineral oils

Varnish is a common issue for many hydraulic liquids and lubricants, especially in turbine and plastic injection moulding; it causes valve stiction, shorter fluid life, clogged system filters, and needless downtime. Moisture and wear particles generate oxidation in fluids, which results in varnish formation, as they react with hydraulic fluids – leading to degradation and acid increase. The RMF system is the perfect solution for this.

This varnish-removal system combines extremely efficient varnish removal with oil-quality monitoring into one modular system. The filter unit serves as a kidney loop by constantly circulating fluid through the filter media, and an oil-quality sensor can be used to monitor oil degradation. The operator can also configure the system for applications with liquid volumes as high as 36,000 litres. It is compatible with all mineral oils, the vast majority of synthetic oils, and phosphate esters. The filter cartridge is made of long fibre cellulose and polypropylene, while the housing is aluminum. Other materials in the system include steel, Buna-N, FPM, and polyester.

The RMF varnish-removal system removes both soluble and insoluble varnish contaminants as it prolongs oil health by lowering additive consumption. It also stops servo valve sticking and cleans systems efficiently without adding water or other by-products. Among the specifications of this system from Wainbee:

  • Apparent dirt-holding capacity: 1.955 kilograms.
  • Bypass opening pressure: 72.5 pounds per square inch.
  • Fluid temperature: 20-80 degrees Celsius.
  • Nominal flow: one litre per minute per cartridge.
  • Outlet connection: ½ an inch BSPP female.
  • Pump safety valve: 217 pounds per square inch.
  • System seal: FPM
  • Water absorption: 2.6 litres.
