Rigspray selected to protect pipelines in the UAE’s first nuclear power plant

Denso Archco-Rigidon Rigspray has been chosen to provide internal pipeline protection for a nuclear power plant that is under construction in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The Barakah nuclear power plant is to be the UAE’s first nuclear power plant and is due for completion by 2020.

Rigspray will be used to protect the power plant’s sea water intake pipelines. The project required a coating that would perform well in marine applications. In addition, the consultant in charge wanted a solution that could provide excellent resistance to abrasion and erosion, as well as good resistance to permeation and undercutting. Following discussions with a local Denso agent and viewing numerous successful case studies of similar applications, Rigspray was selected for the job.

Rigspray features

Rigspray is often used as an outer lining on steel oil rig legs, riser pipes, splash zones and underdeck areas, so it is the ideal solution to provide long-lasting protection for steel in marine environments. It is a two-part polyester glass flake coating that is reinforced and has high solids. In addition to its outstanding resistance to abrasion, corrosion, permeation and undercutting, it offers many features, including fast dry and set times, high temperature tolerance, and high build up to 40 mils in one coat. The coating can be applied either by brush or airless spray. 

Denso Archco-Rigidon coatings and linings include a variety of solutions for rigs, tanks, pipelines and more. Many types of coatings are available for special applications, such as high temperature pipeline coatings and fast cure epoxy repair coatings.
