In 2016, this manufacturer’s facility was having multiple issues with ductwork between its economizer and its air heater, as well as PA ducts on its new 600-megawatt lignite-fired circulating fluidized bed boiler, which operated in temperatures between 260 and 600 degrees Celsius.

The problem was that the expansion joints that the OEM was using were constantly developing holes and leaks, even after the company had repaired them. Repairs of these expansion joints, which the OEM had bought from a producer other than HOLZ, were repeatedly causing unplanned outages at the manufacturing plant.

Wisely, the company made the decision to contact HOLZ for a solution.

After examining the ductwork, the HOLZ team recommended that the OEM invest in better expansion joints. These replacement fabric expansion joints by HOLZ were specifically designed and built for this type of application, with Teflon gas barriers on composite joints to eliminate the potential for holes and leaks. Not only did HOLZ provide the new joints – its staff also provided field support for the new installation, upon the client’s request.

Today, the OEM has no more issues with the ductwork, as the HOLZ fabric expansion joints continue to function as they should. With the elimination of premature failure, the company can now focus on production without worrying about needless outages.
