One recent example: an oilfield and vessel producer contacted Red-D-Arc to help it with a large project, and Red-D-Arc came through as always.

Long-term rental over purchase

The oilfield company was assigned to build 25 large tanks in only a year. It had won this contract at the last minute, and the project was not its main area of expertise. Each tank required a diameter of five metres and a length of 25 metres while being manufactured with 16-millimetre-thick material at a weight of about 45 tons. To address these challenges, the company turned to the experienced Red-D-Arc weld-automation team.

Other suppliers insisted that the company should buy the equipment, but Red-D-Arc recommended long-term rental instead; this would eliminate the time-consuming process of achieving CAPEX approval for purchasing such a large amount of equipment, while also saving costs. The experts at Red-D-Arc were available to answer the customer’s questions about how to avoid ovality and transverse movement of the sub-assemblies, while offering valuable advice and appropriate equipment for the task.

For the project, Red-D-Arc provided six 10-ton turning roll sets, 10 60-ton drive rolls, 47 30-ton and 60-ton idler rolls, and seven submerged-arc packages with LT7 tractors and DC600 power sources. To ensure the customer’s success, Red-D-Arc worked very closely with its team, offering comprehensive training and onsite assistance.

The completed project was so successful that it has since boosted the customer’s profile in its market, with other companies approaching the customer with similar orders. The customer is currently awaiting the second phase of the tank-building project.
