Red-D-Arc supports pop-up store in Vancouver with diesel generator

Although renowned for its portfolio of welding equipment, Red-D-Arc Welderentals also rents and sells generators. Last month, this was a boon for the annual Vancouver Street Store, a free outdoor pop-up store for residents in the Downtown East Side of Vancouver, facilitated by the organization Employ to Empower. To keep this community event running, the Red-D-Arc team supplied an MMD PowerPro 45kVA diesel generator and four heaters. This durable, portable generator was exactly what was needed.

A dignified holiday shopping experience

The Vancouver Street Store, which took place on Dec. 12, offers a dignified holiday shopping experience that allows visitors to choose what they need at no cost. Employ to Empower sets the event up like traditional shops, with departments in different tents and volunteers who serve as sales assistants. The Store helps bring community together in Vancouver, where the homeless population has increased by about 60 per cent over the past year and drug overdoses have also gone up.

For several years, this event has worked with Sean Waldron, the outside sales associate for Red-D-Arc’s Vancouver branch in Langley. Waldron involves Red-D-Arc because the weather is typically cold and rainy during the event; with power and heaters available, attendees of the Store can stay warm while getting haircuts, waiting in line, or eating. He also volunteers at the event for the entire day.

For the 2020 edition of the Vancouver Street Store, Waldron provided four propane industrial heaters, in collaboration with B.C. Rentals, in addition to the 45kVA diesel generator.
