Rosta helped a Swiss recycling firm boost production.

Rosta Inc. has been making a difference for Canadian manufacturers for more than three decades, and its parent company has done so for much longer. The company’s solutions improve production in many major industries, like recycling and waste management. One of Rosta’s many memorable success stories involved a Swiss recycling dealer that needed to replace the rubber dampers in a machine to improve its output. In typical form, Rosta supplied the perfect product for the job.

Significant loss in capacity

After opening a new facility in Lyss, Switzerland, Edi Recycling was optimistic. But the company soon realized that it was getting a lower output than it needed from its main machine. The reason: the equipment had inadequate rubber dampers to alleviate the oscillations effectively at the recycling filter. The machine transferred high residual vibrations to the steel construction, resulting in a significant loss in capacity. This lead to reduction in overall productivity.

A solution was needed as soon as possible. mwn GmbH, the organization that had provided the machine for Edi, turned to the Rosta team for an answer. Rosta experts examined the situation and discovered that the installed rubber dampers could not carry the load. They recommended replacing the dampers with eight Rosta AB elements. Specifically, they suggested AB 45 and AB 50.

These elements are maintenance-free elastic joints that are designed to support free oscillating vibrating screens in various models. They support propulsion power in the conveying direction and offer good linear guidance. Rosta constructs them to serve as springs and to absorb all high vibration effectively and quickly.

After Edi installed these AB joints, they saw instant results. A large increase in productivity and throughput was soon to follow. Other advantages included a higher delivery rate, lower noise emissions, protection of the whole mechanical system, and no need for reinforcing the substructure.

According to mwn managing director Elias Nützi, “The fact that the AB elements are more expensive than the rubber buffers is justifiable because of their effectiveness.

The price difference is negligible,” he added, “looking at the gain in productivity.”
