Quality is key when it comes to custom heat exchangers

Alps Welding prides itself on quality. The Woodbridge, Ont.-based custom fabricator has developed an extensive quality assurance (QA) program, and is audited and accredited as an ASME Section VIII, Div. 1 fabricator.

Alps Welding builds custom ASME code heat exchangers to meet its customers’ design requirements. Its 55,000-square-foot fabrication facility offers the capabilities to build other large equipment in addition to heat exchangers. The company works with a variety of materials, including stainless steel, exotic alloys and titanium, to produce equipment suitable for the most demanding industrial applications. 

Here’s one application example: A multinational chemical company required two condenser units, which were more than 40-feet long and over 125,000 pounds each. Alps Welding fabricated the shells, assembled the internal components (including all the baffle plates and stiffener rods), then installed and expanded the 4,000 brass tubes required in each unit. Before shipping them out on specialized trailers, the company hydro-tested them in its building.

“We have built thousands of vessels in wide varieties in the over 40 years we have been in business,” the company says. “We are used to a high level of inspection and we have a thorough QA program. We consider ourselves to be much more than a manufacturer because we offer a variety of services. We can provide installation of instrumentation and electrical components, insulation, structural supports and more.
