The Pepperl+Fuchs 5500 Series purge and pressurization system, available from PIC

The 5500 Series purge and pressurization system, part of the Bebco EPS line of proven purge solutions from Pepperl+Fuchs, brings a modern approach to the safe and economical Ex p protection method. This Type Z/Ex pz purge system delivers a fully automatic solution in a compact, 316L stainless steel design. This, combined with other best-in-class features, makes it a top choice for applications in hazardous environments and offers a safe and economical approach to installing electrical equipment in demanding applications.

The 5500 Series purge and pressurization system is available in Canada from Process Instruments & Components (PIC), an established Canadian industrial controls distributor based in Markham, Ont.

Features and benefits

The 5500 purge system is an all-in-one solution for Div. 2/Zone 2 applications. Its key features include:

  • A compact control unit with menu-driven programming. This unit can be internally or externally mounted and provides an easy-to-use interface, enabling users to select from a list of custom programs that fits the exact needs of the application. Users can also define temperature ranges to control and alarm critical temperatures within the purge enclosure. When a critical temperature is reached, a solenoid displaces air or initiates heating or cooling functions within the enclosure. If a drop in pressure is detected, the unit automatically compensates to ensure that pressure within the enclosure does not fall below the minimum value.
  • EPV vent. The EPV-5500 vent functions as a pressure relief device, enabling the purge gas to exit the enclosure while providing a seal when the enclosure is pressurized and operating. The vent’s mechanical construction supports universal mounting to easily fit in cabinet or machine housing designs.
  • Third-party approvals. The 5500 Series purge system has third-party worldwide approvals for NEC, CEC, IEC Standards, and CE Directives for Class I, II, III/Division 2 and Zone 2/22 environments.

These features help to create a safe area inside a standard enclosure, allowing general-purpose equipment to be used in hazardous areas.

PIC’s skilled technical support representatives are expertly trained to help customers select the appropriate equipment and accessories to begin or complete any project.
