purge and pressurization

The 5500 Series purge and pressurization system by Pepperl+Fuchs, available from PIC.

Process Instruments and Components Inc. (PIC) is the source that businesses turn to for innovative solutions by Pepperl+Fuchs. For example, PIC offers the 5500 Series purge and pressurization system, one of the Bebco EPS line of proven purge devices. This product applies a new approach to the Ex p protection method.

This purge and pressurization system is a Type Z/Ex pz device, a fully automatic solution in a compact, 316-litre stainless steel design.

Perfect for hazardous work conditions

The 5500 Series is perfect for applications in hazardous conditions. It is a safe, economical choice for installing electrical equipment in challenging environments, serving as an all-in-one solution for Division 2/Zone 2 tasks. The system has many features and advantages that help to create a safe area inside a standard enclosure, to allow the use of general-purpose equipment in dangerous areas.

A key benefit is the menu-driven programming. Users can mount this purge and pressurization system internally or externally as it offers an easy-to-use interface and then choose from a list of custom programs to find one that fits the specific application. The operator can also define temperature ranges to control and alarm critical temperatures within the purge enclosure. At a critical temperature, a solenoid displaces air or initiates heating or cooling functions within the enclosure. On detecting a pressure drop, the system compensates automatically, to ensure that pressure in the enclosure does not lower below the minimum value.

The 5500 Series also boasts an EPV-5500 vent that functions as a pressure-relief device, while also allowing the purge gas to exit the enclosure and providing a seal when the enclosure is pressurized and operating. The mechanical construction supports universal mounting to fit conveniently into cabinet and machine housing designs.

Yet another strong advantage of this system is that it has earned third-party international approvals for NEC, CEC, and IEC standards, as well as CE directives for Class I, II, III/Division 2, and Zone 2/22 environments.

To help customers select proper 5500 models and accessories to work on any project, PIC employs a skilled team of technical-support representatives.
