Process Heaters can supply the newly developed XSB ashing furnaces from Thermcraft. These furnaces are designed to create ideal conditions for complete test sample combustion. They are perfect for ashing coal, food, plastics, petrochemicals and more. Ashing tests are often used to determine the amount of ash-forming materials present, such as impurities and contaminants.

Furnace features and capabilities

Thermcraft’s XSB ashing furnaces have many capabilities and best-in-class features. These include:

  • Maximum operating temperatures up to 1100 degrees C;
  • A Thermcraft SmartControl touchscreen controller;
  • An inconel sheathed type K thermocouple for long life;
  • Heated chamber volumes up to 40 litres;
  • An air gap, which adds thermal insulation between furnace exterior and heated chamber;
  • Three standard models to suit different size requirements; and
  • Wound wire heating elements with hard ceramic plates for protection.

Additional features

XSB ashing furnaces are built to meet ISO specifications 3987, 6245, 10478 and 1171, as well as ASTM specifications D874, D482, D5184 and D3174. These furnaces will preheat air before it enters the chamber, and the air inlet and exhaust chimney provide a standard flow of six air changes per minute. In addition, optional adjustable air flow meters are available to achieve flow rates ranging from two to 10 air changes per minute.

XSB ashing furnaces also feature a hinged vertical lift door with a safety switch. That means that the hot side is always facing away from the operator, and power to the heating elements is interrupted when the door is open.

Other equipment available

In addition to the XSB ashing furnaces, Thermcraft recently released a line of XSB box furnaces for extreme temperatures up to 1600 degrees C. These furnaces and a wide range of other equipment are available from Process Heaters. For more information, visit the company's website.
