precision-machining services

Bergen widens its scope with CNC machining options.

Bergen Cable has decades of experience as a major supplier of industrial cable solutions in North America. But its customers benefit from more than just products. A significant advantage that Bergen has over its competition is the added value that it offers through its in-house secondary operations, such as precision-machining services. The Bergen crew can provide traditional machining methods – and customers also benefit from current CNC machining technology to get great custom solutions.

A versatile machine shop

Bergen can improve its custom cable fittings and hardware from its versatile machine shop with in-house CNC machining, so clients get high-quality custom products with short lead times and competitive prices. The company works closely with reliable vendors for plating, heat treating, painting, and testing. Precision machining is used for various purposes, from custom-machined end fittings to standalone components.

Three kinds of precision-machining services are available from the company. One method is CNC Swiss screw machining. Bergen owns five axis screw machines in its plant, so its personnel can make a range of components with diameters going from miniature to two centimetres. This process works well for manufacturing components with small diameters and complex geometry while maintaining tight tolerance. This machinery can accommodate small prototype quantities and volumes higher than 100,000.

The Bergen team conducts another method, CNC turning, on its own CNC lathes to machine components that are up to 16 inches in length and 14 inches in diameter. The bar feeders on the lathes can feed materials of up to 1¾ inches in diameter constantly, leading to nonstop, high-volume production. Part catchers and chip conveyors also help to keep production running constantly, which lowers unnecessary downtime.

Using its versatile precision-machining services, Bergen Cable can produce customized components, lanyards termination bands, and other types of cable and cable assemblies.
