The RK Series of two-pole solid-state relays from Carlo Gavazzi are ideal for use in many industries, particularly the food and beverage sector, thanks to their many features and benefits. Available in Canada from Process Instruments & Components, these compact relays are easy to install and use, and come with the necessary food and beverage certification conformance.

Key benefits

The RK Series features a space-saving design — two-pole solid-state relays are contained in one housing, measuring 45-millimetres wide.

They also offer fast installation. The relay’s backplate comes with a pre-attached thermal interface, so it is ready for mounting to panel chassis or heatsink. Some models are equipped with a pluggable spring terminal for easy and fast wiring of control connections.

Once the relays are installed, they are easy to use, thanks to each pole having LED indication to visually show control status. And once in operation, they offer a long service life because wire bonding technology reduces thermal and mechanical stresses of the output chips, allowing a larger number of operational cycles compared to other assembly technologies.

In addition, the output of each pole is protected against over-voltages with an integrated transil, which reduces equipment downtime.

Multiple models and applications

There are several models available to meet the needs of each application. The RKD2 model offers the ability to control each pole independently, while the RK2 model controls both poles together. The RKC model has control termination through a 2.54-millimetre pitch connector, and the RKP model has control termination with a 5.08-millimetre pitch plug connector.

The relays have food and beverage certification conformance, so they are certified for 100,000 cycles according to UL508. They are ideal for use in coffee machines and vending machines, but are also a fit for plastic extrusion machines, thermoforming machines, blow moulding machines, electrical ovens, soldering ovens, dryers, climatic chambers, air handling units, plastic sealing machines, shrink tunnels and more.
